Region 6

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) office for Region 6 is located at Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa. By collaborating, training, and funding over 1,100 health centers, health departments, community organizations, as well as medical, public, and school libraries in a seven state region, the office supports the mission of NNLM: to provide U.S. researchers, health professionals, public health workforce, educators, and the public with equal access to biomedical and health information resources and data.

Region 6 serves the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Rural cancer care presents unique challenges for health professionals, including limited access to oncology specialists, fragmented care coordination, and a lack of infrastructure to support evidence-based treatment and quality monitoring. This webinar will explore the structure and function of I-CAN, with attendees gaining insights into how this scalable model can transform cancer care delivery in rural regions across the U.S. This is the first webinar in a series of three. Health Information Outreach Using an Interdisciplinary Model​​ - SAG Report 2021-2026

In 2021, Region 6 of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) proposed forming seven state advisory groups for the purpose of creating small, engaged interdisciplinary forums to assist with identifying community priority health needs and developing action plans to produce health information deliverables. This paper describes the implementation of the Region 6 State Advisory Group (SAG) model, its outcomes and deliverables, and the lessons learned.
